Memory can be damaged not just by a blow to the head, but also by neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, by injuries such as strokes, and very importantly – by improper diet. There is an enormous amount of evidence that brain function, memory and health are closely tied to our diet. We’ve recently found that our diets can make us more susceptible to crippling neurodegenerative diseases (memory loss), such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and vascular dementia. Our diet can alter our behavior, producing positive effects such as creativity and clear thinking, or negative effects such as anxiety or confusion. Diets rich in vegetables and omega-3 fats, improve brain function and have been shown to improve memory, IQ, and general behavior; and at the same time, they eliminate depression. Your memory may very well depend soley on the quality of your diet! Learn more from Dr. Blaylock about preserving your memory and the function of our brain.

Awsome post, I am so interested in all the connections between memory and diet, and memory and exercise. It seems like extra motivation to keep living a healthy lifestyle. I recently came across a cool resource for how to maintain memory as long as possible. Its called the Brain Fitness Channel, and it is run by a company called Posit Science. the website is bfc.positscience.com
It has some fun tests, links to studies and information about how to maintain memory.
